The?»Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Judith Neilson Chair of Contemporary Art?is pleased to spotlight?'Golden Grains Rush'?(¡¶ÌÔ½ðÃס·), an immersive exhibition curated by »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Visiting Professor Chunchen Wang.?

Co-published by the Spring-Time Contemporary Art Research Center in Beijing¡¯s 798 Art District and the »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ Judith Neilson Chair of Contemporary Art, the exhibition¡ªjointly planned by Professor Chunchen Wang and Professor Paul Gladston¡ªexplores the constructed value systems underlying material desire, labour, and power.

Artist Yexin Yang¡¯s installation invites visitors to sift through tons of rice grains in search of 1,000 hidden gold-coated grains¡ªa literal ¡°gold/en rush¡± staged in a gallery setting. The work confronts audiences with questions of economic disparity, consumption, and the contradictions embedded in contemporary capitalist society.

More than an artistic gesture, the exhibition functions as a form of social theatre/spectacle. Participants become both performers and critics, enacting a ritual that transforms value from the symbolic to the physical. As viewers kneel and search for gold, the work challenges the sanctity of wealth and asks: In a time of abundance, what do we truly revere¡ªsustenance/sustainability or status?
