
Professor Anthony Zwi
MB.BCh, MSc, PhD, FFPHM, AFPHM
Professor Zwi is Professor of Global Health and Development in the School of Social Sciences at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ. He has a medical degree and PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and a Masters degree in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.Ìý He studied and then worked in London from 1986-2001 - at University College London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and North East Thames Regional Health Authority.Ìý He was Head of the Health policy Unit at LSHTM from 1997-2000. In 2002 he was appointed the first Head of the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ and continued as Head for four years. In 2011 he moved from the Faculty of Medicine »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (»Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ) where he deepened his teaching and research in development policy, gender based violence, human rights and social justice issues, often with a health-related angle.Ìý Professor Zwi focuses on global health and development policy and practice, as well as their interface(s) with equity, social justice and human rights.
