Staff insights informing academic calendar

Personalise

»Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ staff perspectives were vital in developing the »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ academic calendar models and considerations.

The project team consulted extensively with »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ faculties, schools, divisions, and working groups to identify what works well and where challenges lie with the current academic calendar.

Some of these challenges also provided insight into other »Ê¹Ú²ÊƱ improvement projects, such as admissions transformation, the assessment and feedback transformation program, and the special considerations uplift projects.

Staff feedback from the sessions throughout 2024 and early 2025 raised a number of topics. The key themes included:

  • pedagogical strengths and weaknesses of different term lengths
  • administrative challenges and opportunities for staff under both calendar models
  • opportunities for innovation in assessments and addressing issues with exams
  • staff and student wellbeing considerations
  • timing and lengths of breaks across the year
  • considerations to support the successful implementation of a new calendar model.

These insights are incredibly valuable in assessing the strengths and challenges of each calendar model.

We will continue to keep you updated as the project progresses to implementation of the preferred model.
